Knowledge of the hadronic contribution to the photonic vacuum polariza
tion is required for calculating radiative corrections in electroweak
theory. A simple model is proposed that reproduces the value <(alpha)o
ver bar> = alpha(m(Z)(2)) obtained by integrating experimental data on
the transition sigma(e+e--->hadrons). High-accuracy measurement of th
e muon magnetic moment would refine the parameters of our model in the
energy range 1 GeV < E < 2 GeV, which is crucial for reducing errors
in <(alpha)over bar>.
