Pa. Murphy, PRIMARY-CARE FOR WOMEN - HEALTH ASSESSMENT, HEALTH PROMOTION, AND DISEASE PREVENTION SERVICES, Journal of nurse-midwifery, 41(2), 1996, pp. 83-91
This report describes the health assessment, health promotion, and dis
ease prevention practices of certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) working i
n ambulatory care settings. Survey questionnaires were sent to a strat
ified systematic random sample of American College of Nurse-Midwives (
ACNM) members. Respondents were asked to identify the proportion of cl
ients in their practices for whom certain health assessments and healt
h promotion activities were routinely provided. Sixty-six percent of t
he targeted sample were eligible providers of ambulatory care and retu
rned a completed questionnaire. Results indicate that CNMs meet or app
roach current national targeted goals for many health assessment and h
ealth promotion services. Areas for further improvement are discussed.
