The development of abnormal manifestations during drug treatment usual
ly leads to permanent exclusion of the suspected drug in children. 123
challenge tests concerning 18 drugs were performed in 87 children dur
ing a day-only admission under maximal security conditions, in order t
o confirm or invalidate the risk of allergic reaction. No immediate or
delayed reactions were observed in 77 children during the 123 challen
ges. The diagnosis of drug allergy was confirmed in 10 children: due t
o amoxicillin 5 cases, ampicillin in 1 case, a cephalosporin in 1 case
and aspirin in 3 cases.
