A. Bellou et al., MONOCLONAL GAMMOPATHY AND PRIMARY HYPERPA RATHYROIDISM - REPORT OF 2 CASES AND LITERATURE-REVIEW, La Revue de medecine interne, 17(4), 1996, pp. 325-328
Frequency of primary hyperparathyroidism (HP) is increased in neoplasi
a. Though uncommon, both HP and monoclonal gammopathy are not exceptio
nnally associated as seen in a literature review reporting 24 observat
ions. The mechanism of this association remains unclear but does not s
eems coincidental. Association of hypercalcemia with gammopathy does n
ot suggest systematically malignant hypercalcemia and implies the sear
ch for hyperparathyroidism. The authors report two patients presenting
respectively a multiple IgD myeloma and an monoclonal gammopathy of u
ndetermined signification associated with a parathyroid adenoma.
