The crystal structure of [Pt-2(C3H3N2)(2)(C10H8N2)(2)](BF4)(2).H2O, ha
s been determined by X-ray diffraction. The six-membered ring consisti
ng of the two Pt atoms and the four pyrazolyl N atoms has a boat-shape
d conformation in which each Pt atom is located 1.14 (1) Angstrom abov
e the plane defined by the four pyrazolyl N atoms. The two platinum co
ordination planes are canted at an angle of 77.9 (3)degrees, which is
8.1 (6)degrees smaller than the dihedral angle between the two bipyrid
yl planes. The dihedral angle between the two pyrazolyl planes is 83.4
(6)degrees. These angular strains are found to be caused by the intra
molecular steric repulsion between the bipyridyl H and pyrazolyl N ato
ms.
