This paper reports the finding of 3 specimens of Psychodopygus complex
us, captured in the Paragominas region of Para State, Brazil, naturall
y infected with trypanosomatids that were positively identified as Lei
shmania (Viannia) braziliensis. Attention is drawn to the importance o
f this species as a vector since it is highly anthropophilic and has a
very extensive geographical distribution in the lower Amazon region o
f Para State south of the Amazon river, including the island of Marajo
