The formation of ultradisperse CuInS2 particles during chemical precip
itation in aqueous and acetonitrile solutions, which results in the fo
rmation of stable colloidal solutions and film matrices containing CuI
nS2 particles less than 10 nm in size is studied. The absorption spect
ra of colloids and film matrices with particle sizes in the range 1 -
6 nm are shifted toward the high-energy region in comparison with the
spectrum of crystalline CuInS2, and they acquire an additional absorpt
ion band upon aging. The variation of the spectral characteristics of
CuInS2 is considered from the standpoint of quantum-size effects in se
miconductors.
