GEOMORPHOLOGICAL RECORD OF GLACIOEUSTATIC PEAKS IN THE UPLIFTED SOVERATO AREA (SOUTHERN ITALY)

On the Italian Ionian coast, in the Soverato area, twenty successive s horelines were surveyed between the present sea level and 260 m in alt itude. Except in two cases, each shoreline was uplifted at the same el evation all along 12 kilometres in the studied area, at least below 21 0 m high. Because there is no date available, the nine lower shoreline s are correlated with the nine lower ones displayed along the Messina Strait and attributed to dates between 53 and 130 ka. A 0.868 m/ka upl ift rate was deduced for the Soverato area against a 1.10 m to 1.26 m/ ka along the southern Reggio di Calabria coast.
