The high resolution infrared spectrum of H2S in the 3300-4080 cm(-1) r
egion has been measured on a Fourier transform spectrometer. Altogethe
r about 1948 lines have been assigned to the bands nu(1) + nu(2), nu(2
) + nu(3), and 3 nu(2) of the isotopic species H,S-32(2), H,S-34(2), a
nd (H2S)-S-33 and the hot bands (n)u(1) + 2 nu(2) - nu(2) and 2 nu(2)
+ nu(3) - nu(2) of (H2S)-S-32. The energy levels derived from the line
s in the three bands were simultaneously fitted for all different isot
opic species. It was necessary to rake into account several interactio
ns; the strong Coriolis resonance between nu(1) + nu(2) and nu(2) + nu
(3), the other Coriolis resonance between nu(2) + nu(3) and 3 nu(2) as
well as the Fermi resonance nu(1) + nu(2)/3v nu(2). As an example it
may be mentioned that for (H2S)-S-32 353 upper state energy levels wit
h J(max) = 18 were fitted using 80 variable parameters and the molecul
ar parameters obtained reproduce the energy levels with a standard dev
iation of 1.3 x 10(-4) cm(-1). (C) 1996 Academic Press, Inc.
