R. Claessens et Gv. Baron, MEASUREMENT OF LIQUID-PHASE MULTICOMPONENT ADSORPTION IN A SYNZYME PARTIAL OXIDATION CATALYST, Chemical Engineering Science, 51(10), 1996, pp. 1869-1878
Adsorption properties were determined by liquid phase chromatography f
or a new type of partial oxidation catalyst: an Fe-Phthalocyanine comp
lex synthesized in a NaY zeolite. In the case of partial oxidation of
cyclohexane to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone with t-butylhydroperoxid
e, diffusion does not limit the reaction. The partition coefficients a
nd limited multicomponent equilibrium data are extracted from perturba
tion liquid chromatography measurements for all components in the reac
tion mixture. Highly selective adsorption of polar compounds on the co
mplex determines the concentrations on the active site, and hence the
reaction rates. Changes in Si/Al ratio of the zeolite framework has on
ly a limited influence. Performance of such catalysts can then be expl
ained on the basis of the adsorption data.
