The kinetics of electrode processes on cadmium electrode of an alkali
accumulator related to the variations of concentration of cadmium spec
ies in the near-electrode Layers of electrolyte under the primary curr
ent-generating process as well as the mechanism of contamination of se
paration materials under the conditions when an electrode is operated
as a part of sealed accumulators are studied. The major factors that l
ead to an increase in the concentration of cadmium species in the near
-electrode layers and are mainly responsible for the penetration of ca
dmium into the separation material, its reduction to metal under cycli
ng and further interelectrode leakages and short cuts are determined.
