A numerical simulation model to optimize the performance of MQW-DFB la
sers in the near-threshold regime is presented. The effects of the num
ber of quantum wells, the coupling coefficient, and the conditions at
the cavity ends (reflectivities and phase shifts) on the laser charact
eristics are investigated for a 1.3-mu m InPGaAs laser. (C) 1996 John
