Lm. Harris et al., INTRAAORTIC BALLOON PUMP ENTRAPMENT - AN ALTERNATIVE METHOD OF MANAGEMENT - A CASE-REPORT, Vascular surgery, 30(3), 1996, pp. 239-244
The intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) is an important component in the m
anagement and support of the failing heart. Despite the benefits of th
e IABP, major vascular complications have been documented to occur. En
trapment of an IABP is a rare, but potentially catastrophic, complicat
ion. The authors report a case of IABP entrapment, review the previous
reports in the literature, and detail their method of extraction.
