The interaction of CO2 with an industrially manufactured Pd/LaAlO3 cat
alyst and three supports, Al2O3, LaAlO3 and La2O3-Al2O3, was studied b
y using the temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), transient reactio
n and temperature-programmed reaction methods. The TPD experiments rev
eal that molecular CO2 strongly adsorbs on Pd/LaAlO3 at 300 K. Therefo
re, the kinetics of the CO-O-2 reaction must account for the adsorptio
n/desorption of CO2 on Pd/LaAlO3. The LaAlO3 support of this catalyst
offers the adsorption sites for CO2. The interaction of CO2 with pure
Al2O3, LaAlO3 and La2O3-Al2O3 supports is also strong.
