N-HYDROXYAMIDE-CONTAINING HETEROCYCLES .6. APPLICATION OF 1-HYDROXY-4,6-DIMETHYL-2(1H)-PYRIMIDINONE TO A NEW BENZYLOXYCARBONYLATING AGENT

An N-hydroxyamide-containing heterocycle, 1-hydroxy-4,6-dimethyl-2(1H) -pyrimidinone (1) under bar was allowed to react with benzyl chlorofor mate (Z-Cl) in the presence of pyridine to give the corresponding O-be nzyloxycaybonyl-2(1H)-pyrimidinone (2) under bar. Compound (2) under b ar was treated in situ with amines, amino acids, and alcohols under mi ld conditions to afford Z-protecting products in high yields. Judging from these experimental results, compound (2) under bar was found to b e a new convenient benzyloxycarbonylating agent.
