Abstract
Risk factors are being refined; old ones are being dropped and new one s are being added, Early detection-before fracture occurs-with bone-de nsity assessment represents another important advance. Several strateg ies are now available to inhibit bone loss, and means are in prospect to promote bone formation directly, Of these, alendronate and slow-rel ease fluoride appear to have particular promise.
