Abstract
Electrospray ionization and matrix assisted laser desorption/ionizatio n are effective ionization methods for mass spectrometry of biomolecul es. Here we describe the capabilities of these methods for peptide and protein characterization in biotechnology. An integrated analytical s trategy is presented encompassing protein characterization prior to an d after cloning of the corresponding gene.
