Abstract
This paper considers the adequacy of household survey data from develo ping countries. First, we propose a definition of ''adequacy.'' Second , we use this definition to review recent progress in household survey s and to speculate about future progress. We conclude by suggesting so me implications of the current situation for data collectors, policyma kers, and researchers.
