Abstract
Staphylococcus aureus isolates from cases of pyomyositis in Uganda exh ibit SmaI macrorestriction and rRNA gene spacer patterns which corresp ond to those of two major clonal groups of S. aureus from central Euro pe. Isolates of the clonal group with phage-pattern 29, 52, +possess t he tst gene, isolates of the clonal group with phage pattern 3C, 55, 7 1 the seb gene. S. aureus with corresponding typing patterns were also found among nasal carriers in the community of the Kampala area.
