Abstract
Depression in medically ill patients is associated with disability, mo rtality, and excessive use of medical services and is often unrecogniz ed and undertreated. Data relating to the prevalence, diagnostic crite ria, and treatment of depression are reviewed with an emphasis on the newer antidepressants.
