P. Bader et al., IATROGENIC PERFORATION OF THE ESOPHAGUS - A SEVERE COMPLICATION IN THE TREATMENT OF PRETERM NEONATES, Zeitschrift fur Geburtshilfe und Perinatologie, 200(1), 1996, pp. 33-35
Two preterm neonates were referred to our institution, one with suspec
ted oesophageal atresia and one with the definite diagnosis of oesopha
geal atresia for further treatment. Diagnostic procedures identified a
n iatrogenic perforation of the oesophagus which was caused by a feedi
ng tube in both patients. The treatment Was based on broad-spectrum an
tibiotic therapy and parenteral nutrition. The perforations heald with
out long term sequelae.
