Abstract
Ytterbium metal (Yb) reacts with phenylthiotrimethylsilane to generate ytterbium(II) phenylthiolate. The divalent ytterbium thiolate [Yb(SPh )(2)]. thus formed in situ, reacts with aromatic aldehydes to give pin acols. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
