We report on low-temperature (4.2 K) Fe-57 Mossbauer studies of the te
rnary alloy system Fe(Sb1-xTex)(2) for 0.5 less than or equal to x les
s than or equal to 1.0. The Mossbauer spectra are electric-quadrupole
doublets for all the specimens, indicating a non-magnetic character. T
he quadrupole splitting decreases with the increase in tellurium conce
ntration. FeTe2 has also been studied in external magnetic fields up t
o 6 T. These experiments show that the electric-field gradient in this
alloy is negative and has an asymmetry parameter of eta approximate t
o 0.7.
