This paper describes the use of an evolutionary algorithm for the gene
ration of a graded finite difference grid, which makes a good as possi
ble approximation of the input geometric objects, The algorithm is spe
cialized to 2-dimensional polygonal structures, because the aim was to
get a simulation model for Printed Circuit Board structures, The algo
rithm itself and the quality function applied are explained and an exa
mple of a PCB structure, which was discretized by the coded version of
the algorithm, is shown.
