A methodology for the computer aided constrained design of electrical
devices is presented and validated through the design of a slotless pe
rmanent structure. It is based on the use of the analytical design equ
ations of the device. Symbolic calculation is widely used to generate
an analysis program and a sensitivity computation program. Those progr
ams are linked with an optimisation algorithm that can take constraint
s into account. The methodology is tested with an experimental softwar
e named PASCOSMA.
