THE MAGNET DESIGN FACILITY MDF OF THE FORSCHUNGSZENTRUM-KARLSRUHE

An overview is given about the possibilities to design air core magnet s (magnets without an iron yoke) of very different shape for different applications. Lambda ''Magnet Design Facility'' (MDF) was developed t o design interactively magnets in order to get quick response. The com puter codes used are shortly outlined, and different examples ore give n to show the wide variety of magnet types which can he easily handled . In addition, several examples of designed and/or constructed magnets or magnet systems are shown designed by rising MDF.
