Abstract
Vacuum circuit breakers are widely used in medium voltage power distri bution systems because of being compact, lightweight, and having long electrical life without maintenance, It is necessary for the optimum d esign of vacuum circuit breakers to analyze blowout forces acting on t he are in vacuum chambers, In this paper, the forces generated by curr ents and flux densities are obtained by using the 3-D finite element a nalysis taking into account the current distribution in current carryi ng conductors, The effects of the inclination of slots and position of the are on the blowout forces are clarified.
