Abstract
X-ray diffractometry, FTi.r. analysis, cation-exchange capacity, and s olubility were used to characterize the effect of ball milling on zeol ite A, zeolite X, and synthetic mordenite. Changes of i.r. spectra dur ing the ball milling show that a loss of crystallinity, a decrease of cation-exchange capacity, and an increase of solubility were caused by breaking of Si-O-Si and Si-O-Al bonds in the zeolite structure. Based on such a conclusion, the kinetic equation of the amorphization proce ss was derived and evaluated.
