K. Leenders et al., STRIATAL [C-11] N-METHYL-SPIPERONE BINDING IN PATIENTS WITH FOCAL DYSTONIA (TORTICOLLIS) USING POSITRON EMISSION TOMOGRAPHY, Journal of neural transmission. Parkinson's disease and dementia section, 5(2), 1993, pp. 79-87
Specific binding of [C-11]-N-methyl-spiperone to striatal dopamine D2
receptors was assessed using positron emission tomography (PET) in 6 p
atients with adult-onset focal dystonia (predominantly spasmodic torti
collis) and in 5 healthy subjects. No significant difference in averag
e specific striatal tracer uptake between patients and healthy subject
s was found. However, in the 5 patients showing lateralisation of clin
ical signs a trend to higher striatal tracer uptake in the contralater
al hemisphere was observed.
