Abstract
Multifactorial respiratory disease is studied under practical conditio ns in the turkey. The behaviour of the birds and the post-mortem lesio ns are used to determine a provisional diagnosis. Laboratory analysis confirms the bacteriological aspects of the disease. Sometimes, parent eral antibiotherapy may be required, when clinics include high mortali ty and intense prostration behaviour, or when the identified bacteria are resistant to oral antibiotics. A combination of colistine and spec tinomycin is used to treat the disease in severe cases, and gives sati sfactory results when an accurate diagnosis is made. The pharmacologic al characteristics of the two molecules are discussed.
