Abstract
A generalised transform scheme for arbitrarily shaped image segments f or the purpose of image compression is presented. The main feature of the scheme is an adaptive coefficient grouping method used in the seco nd stage of the DCT. Experimental results show that this transform sch eme performs better in terms of transform efficiency and maximum reduc ible bits than the methods proposed in [2] for all the image models us ed.
