Abstract
The effect of an intermediate coating treatment on the superconducting properties of YBa2Cu3O7-delta is reported. In this process, supercond uctor grains are coated with SnI4 by soaking the grains in SnI4 soluti on between sintering treatments. Critical transport current density, m easured by a standard four-probe do resistive method, is found to be s ignificantly improved. This effect is prominent for high-temperature s intering near the melting point; textured crystal growth is seen and t he critical transport current density reaches 14 000 A cm(-2) at 77 K, 0 T.
