The energy and angular distributions of pre-equilibrium neutrons from
the interaction of 14MeV neutrons with target nuclei from V-51 to Ni-5
8 are analysed by the multistep compound (msc) and multistep direct (M
SD) theory of Feshbach, Kerman and Koonin (FKK) and the semiclassical
geometry-dependent hybrid (GDH) model. The same parameter sets are use
d for both calculations. The calculations are compared with experiment
al data and the applicability of the theories is assessed.
