Abstract
Maximum transmission distance for a 10Gbit/s signal over nondispersion shifted fibre using mid-span spectral inversion. is mainly limited by additional chirp of the output spectral inverted signal introduced by the spectral invertor and by the conversion efficiency of the spectra l invertor. By optimising such a system, the maximum transmission dist ance is limited to <3000km for a <5dB (at BER = 10(-9)) power penalty or 1 dB eye closure.
