The effects of cochannel interference and noise in a radio link charac
terised by fading and shadowing are considered. An approximate express
ion to evaluate outage probability in the presence of noise and a Rice
channel with log-normal shadowing superimposed, both for the useful s
ignal and the interferers, is presented. The method can be applied to
the performance evaluation of cellular mobile radio systems. The accur
acy of the approximation is discussed. A Monte-Carlo simulation method
to confirm the numerical results has been applied.
