Abstract
The Letter describes a modified nonrestoring algorithm for square roof ing. A very fast hardware implementation based on a pipelined array is proposed. The new architecture avoids an auxiliary system for the ide ntification of exceptions. Carry select adders instead of carry propag ate ones are used to improve performance.
