Abstract
The role of the primary care physician in the care of elderly terminal ly ill patients is discussed, with attention to palliative care. Worki ng with hospice services is reviewed, along with tasks of the physicia n at four stages of care: the shift from curative to palliative care, active palliative care, care at the time of death, and bereavement car e. Resource materials are suggested.
