Molecular exchange reaction of an argon cluster, Ar, (n = 6, 8, 11 and
14), in collision with a CO2 molecule was investigated by computer si
mulation. Binary clusters, ArmCO2, were found to be produced in the mo
lecular exchange reaction, where m less than or equal to n. The cross
sections for the reaction were calculated to be 21-29, 19-38, 37-46 an
d 71-107 Angstrom(2) for Ar-n (n = 6, 8, 11 and 14), respectively, whe
re the temperature of Ar-n, was 20-40 K. The average numbers of releas
ed Ar atoms in the reaction, n - m, were also calculated. The cross se
ctions and the numbers of released Ar atoms were almost consistent wit
h those measured by the mass spectrometry of the products of Ar-n-CO2
reaction using a cluster-beam gas-cell method.
