A 54-year-old patient with a one-year history of epigastric pain witho
ut significant physical findings had computed tomography evidence of a
malignant peritoneal tumor. Examination of a specimen removed during
exploratory laparatomy suggested a malignant peritoneal mesothelioma.
The outcome was fatal. Malignant peritoneal mesothelioma is infrequent
. The diagnosis is difficult and requires histologic studies. Exposure
to asbestos is suggestive.
