Abstract
Interference fitted assemblies are most widely used in engineering pra ctice because of excellent load carrying capacity, reliability and eas e of assembly. For a specific fitting with fixed interference, the str ength can be improved by thermal treatment and also by introducing a l ayer between the mating parts through plating the shafts. An experimen tal investigation of the above factors on the fitting strength is obta ined and discussed in detail.
