Food guidelines for children and adolescents to realize present day re
commendations for nutrient intake and prevention of nutrition related
diseases are presented. Reasons for the selection of food (groups) are
given. The proposed optimized mixed diet is characterized by high int
ake of plant foods, moderate intake of animal foods and low intake of
dietary fat. Foods of high nutrient density are recommended, foods of
low nutrient density are tolerated.
