J. Bauml et al., PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL GROUPS AMONG SCHIZOPHRE NIC-PATIENTS - INFLUENCE ONKNOWLEDGE AND COMPLIANCE - RESULTS OF THE MUNICH PIP STUDY, Nervenheilkunde, 15(3), 1996, pp. 145-150
Out of 236 schizophrenic patients undergoing inpatient care 125 were r
andomly selected and given short-term psychoeducational therapy. The o
ther 111 received routine treatment. The verum patients showed a signi
ficant increase of knowledge and assessed the one-year relapse risk wi
thout neuroleptics correctly in a larger percentage than before. 41% g
ave correct answers in contrast to initially 29%, whereas in the contr
ol group during the same time period the rate of correct answers fell
from 21% to 4%. These differing sensibility concerning the relapse ris
k correlated with the compliance of the patients. Accordingly the rate
of readmissions was 21% in the verum group and 38% in the control gro
up.
