F. Osswald et al., HIGH-VOLTAGE INSULATING STRUCTURES FOR ACCELERATORS - SIMULATION OF TRANSIENT ELECTRICAL STRESSES, IEEE transactions on dielectrics and electrical insulation, 3(2), 1996, pp. 258-272
Calculations have been made to increase the HV performance of some com
ponents and to explain electrical failures of electrostatic accelerato
rs. These involve simulations of static stresses and transient overvol
tages, especially on insulating boards and electrodes occurring before
or during breakdown. Changes made in the structure of the machines ov
er the last years and new ideas to improve the static and dynamic beha
vior are presented. The application of this study and HV tests recentl
y led to a nominal potential near 20 MV without sparking.
