The influence of different addenda on the structure and photographic b
ehaviour of silver bromide layers is studied. It is established that t
he layers doped with Rh3+ have the finest surface structure and the la
yers doped with 10% AgI achieve the highest sensitivity. On the basis
of own and already published results and discussions, it is assumed th
at the influence of dopants on the sensitivity cannot be attributed to
effects single independent like the change of the microstructure the
incorporation into the AgBr lattice, or trapping of photoelectrons and
holes. Most probably, the changed speed of doped AgBr systems is a co
nsequence of simultaneously occurring, possibly, competing processes,
since it depends on the addenda used, as well as on the doping conditi
ons. Finally an attempt is made for a classification of the impurities
on the basis of their action on latent image formation and developmen
t.
