Abstract
Monte Carlo calculations have been performed to investigate the effect of multiple scattering on the frequency spectra caused by Brillouin s cattering in the ocean. It is shown that the use of the frequency spec tra to determine the speed of sound profile and the hydrosol backscatt ering probability is stable under multiple scattering because the prob lem is limited to single backscattering events.
