Epilobium petraeum Heenan is described as a new species from mountaino
us regions of central and north-eastern South Island, New Zealand. Thi
s perennial and entirely glabrous herb had previously been included in
E. crassum Hook.f. It is recognised by a low, spreading and compact h
abit, red stems, opposite, dark-green, glossy leaves with the upper mi
drib usually red, and papillose seeds with a non-persistent coma.
