Abstract
Application of detailed balance permits estimation of the rate coeffic ients for the reaction of highly vibrationally excited O-2 With ambien t O-2 to yield odd oxygen, a process of potential importance in the st ratosphere, O-2(v = 26,27) + O-2 --> O-3 + O. The rate coefficients ca lculated in this manner are much smaller than those reported from expe riment and below any level of atmospheric significance.
