Effects of the solvent on the optical limiting action of C-60 solution
s are investigated under conditions of sequential two-photon absorptio
n. C-60 transmission measurements are reported both at constant wavele
ngth and at constant linear ground state absorbance for a set of solve
nts using visible nanosecond laser radiation. The limiting action is s
hown to depend not only on the ground state absorbance of the solute b
ut also on the local field created by the solvent.
