Water soluble mixed-ligand oxovanadium(IV) complexes of sulphonated sa
licylaldimine ligands of alpha-amino acids Na(2)HL.H2O[1, R=H, CH3, CH
(CH3)(2) and CH(2)Ph] and acetylacetone of the formula Na-2[VO(L)(acac
)].3H(2)O have been synthesized and characterized by IR, UV/VIS, EPR,
magnetic moments and redox behaviour. The coordination sphere of the c
omplexes are of the type VO(ONO)(OO), where O atoms are phenolic, carb
oxylic, ketonic and enolic type and N is of azomethine type. The compl
exes are one electron paramagnetic and show 1:2 electrolytic conductiv
ity. The complexes display irreversible one electron oxidation peaks i
n H2O in the range 0.46-0.55 V vs SCE.
