J. Schaug et al., COMPARISON OF MEASUREMENTS AND MODEL RESULTS FOR AIRBORNE SULFUR AND NITROGEN COMPONENTS WITH KRIGING, Atmospheric environment. Part A, General topics, 27(6), 1993, pp. 831-844
Comparisons have been made between calculations from the Lagrangian mo
del for acid deposition at Meteorological Synthesizing Centre-West (MS
C-W) of EMEP and measurements at EMEP sites. Annual averages of aeroso
l sulphate, sulphate in precipitation and nitrate in precipitation wer
e calculated and compared for selected sites. Site selection was based
on data completeness and on results from EMEP interlaboratory exercis
es. The comparison for sulphates in precipitation and air led to a mod
el underestimation in the north and model overestimation in a belt thr
ough the major source regions in central Europe. The comparisons also
indicate irregularities at some sites which may be due to influence fr
om local sources, or the data quality, although this is not substantia
ted. The model estimates of nitrate in precipitation compare well with
the measurements, although some characteristic differences occur also
for this component.
